Phase-1 Construction is in full swing & will be commissioned by 2008
In Phase-1 KPCL will be able to handle vessels with maximum arrival draft of 13.2 meters
The Cargoes that the port will handle are
:
Containers (Dedicated Berth & Stackyard area with all modern handling equipment)
Coal (Dedicated Berth with ship unloader and conveyor system)
Iron ore (Dedicated Berth with ship loader and separate conveyer system & wagon-tipplers)
Break Bulk, Heavy Lifts, ODC & other general cargoes (Dedicated Berths with cranes & other handling equipment)
Phase-1 of the port will be commissioned by June-2008 & the container terminal will have a capacity to handle over 400,000 TEU Per Annum
The Rail link with dedicated Rail sidings for handling Containers & Bulk Cargos will also be commissioned in Phase-1. The existing two roads connecting Nellore & National Highway - 5 to the port will be widened. In addition a New two - lane road running parallel to the Venkatachalam-KPCL Port Railway line will also be ready in Phase-1
Hence both Road & Rail connectivity is adequately assured.
